Home Education WA (HEWA) is proud to be a sponsor of a WA-based FIRST Lego League Team that will be participating in an international competition this week.

FIRST Lego League is a global program that introduces science, technology, engineering, and Maths (STEM) to children and young people through fun, hands-on learning. It combines robotics, research, and teamwork, and encourages exploration of real-world problems and a project with innovative solutions.

During Term 4 last year, a group of 5 homeschoolers (Gabriel, Nina, Josh, Lizzie and John) formed a FIRST Lego League Team, called “The Prime Optimisers”.

By the end of the term this rookie team had participated in two competitions and received several awards, including the Overall Champions in the Regional in Bunbury, as well as an invitation from the Nationals West held at Curtin to represent Australia at the International Open Challenge held in Cape Town in South Africa (May 2025). Unfortunately there were a few setbacks and the invitation had to be declined.

Last week, unexpectedly, a ‘wild card’ invitation was extended to the remaining two members of the “The Prime Optimisers” team, Gabriel and Nina to participate in the Asia Pacific Open Championships, held in Sydney this week!

We congratulate “The Prime Optimisers” on their journey and achievements so far.

HEWA is proud to support home-educated youth that represent the homeschooling community on such a prestigious international stage.
